Miami Dolphins
*Nick Saban says that he will use back up RB Lee Suggs quite extensively behind Ronnie Brown. Watch this closely as Suggs might become worthy of a roster spot in bigger leagues.
*Ronnie Brown did not look very good against Carolina. I'm not so much worried about the lack of ability to move the ball. They played a good defense and the pass was working. What really concerned me was how tentative Brown looked in his goal line carry. He basically put his head down and ran into the back of his offensive lineman rather than bounce out and try to outrun defenders. He'll get his yards, but based on what we saw, the Dolphins may lose confidence in him close in and that's bad news.
*Word is that the Dolphins are still searching for a viable backup for Ronnie Brown. Although Chris Brown from Tennessee would be the most desirable, he may be the most expensive. Rumors are that the Dolphins are looking into the availability of Ladell Betts of the Redskins and have made inquiry about Ryan Moats of the Eagles.
*Derek Hagan is taking Marty Booker's spot as a starter until Booker's calf is healed. With how good this offense is supposed to be, if Booker is out long term Hagan could have value.
*Not all news is good out of Miami. Marty Booker has been slowed by a lingering calf injury that dates back to last season. A nagging injury that lasts that long reminds me a lot of Laveranues Coles...and you know how we feel about him.
*Daunte Culpepper is scheduled to start in first preseason game. Great news for Culpepper and the Dolphins. With the talent around him, Culpepper could have a great season.
*Mike Mularkey announced that he wants a 50-50 split between runs and passes. He's left little doubt that Ronnie Brown will carry the load with Ricky Williams playing in Canada. The knock on Brown is that he has not carried the load since high school. Don't worry. When he had his chance briefly last year, he looked great.
*There is superbowl talk in Miami. Considering the vast improvements on offense and an already good defense, it's no so far fetched. Don't forget about this team on draft day. Guys like Marty Booker and Olindo Mare should get drafted. Guys like Brown and Chambers should get drafted early.
*Last year, the Dolphins attempted 93 passes over 20 yards. They are talking about greatly reducing that number in favor of a more controlled offense. Just another reason we like Ronnie Brown this year.
*Daunte Culpepper claims he could be ready for the preseason. Highly optimistic considering how badly his knee was injured.
